Dupe for Skin Fetish 003

Pat McGrath, makeup artist extraordinaire whom you may recognize from her tiny thumbnail photo that, for years, was always printed next to her makeup advice in Allure magazine, has finally released the latest product to add to her ostentatious-yet-demure makeup line.

Currently out of stock on her website and no doubt running low at Sephora, Skin Fetish 003, as it’s affectionately known, is a tri-part series of highlighters that can be used alone or in conjunction with each other. A double-ended wand hold a translucent balm for a natural glow, a glistening cream on the other, and a separate compact houses an illuminating powder.

There are two kinds, one more more-pink based (Nude) and the other more gold-based (Golden). BOTH are beautiful! Although, don’t ask me about the bag of sequins (I personally find that to be a dumb, stupid, wasteful addition that does nothing and just drives up the price. But hey, I’m just bein’ real. #Hater).

Regardless, these a babies are STUNNING. STUUHHHHHNING.

But you know what’s NOT stunning?….. The price tag.

Your computer screen is not playing tricks on you. It’s honestly $75.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I want these babies more than I want ACTUAL babies. But I can’t find the justification for spending that much. At least, not right now. #StudentLoansWhile perusing the aisles of Sephora, as I’m want to do, I noticed that they have two products that make great dupes for Skin Fetish 003! And guess how much they cost in total. $28

Now, I wasn’t trying to come up with the cheapest version of Pat McGrath’s kit. I just noticed these looked most similar when trying loads of luminizers on the back of my hand (to the point where I looked like I was wearing Michael Jackson’s famed silver glove).

Here are the respective dupes you can swap in for the Nude and Golden versions of Skin Fetish 003.

Here’s what the the liquid in Stardust (dupe for ‘Golden’) and the powder in Light Beam (dupe for ‘Nude’):

Now, don’t get me wrong, these babies are not 100% identical swaps for the carefully formulated creations from Queen Pat. No, no. These appear to have a bit more chunky sparkles, which detract from the more natural shimmer quality I suspect McGrath Lab’s product has.

On the plus side, though, you get to save $47 and still get to look pretty bomb. I say that’s a pretty good trade-off.
